Compassion for Kids
Ministry for foster families, safe families, and adoptive families
Building Families, Glorifying God
We want to inspire, equip, and support people to care for children in foster care, safe families, orphan support and adoption.
Our Adoption Group’s Vision
To support, love and nurture families that are caring for foster, safe and adopted children. In addition, we want to unite adoptive families and support the development of lifelong relationships for group members and their children. These groups will provide a safe environment to openly discuss how God has touched our lives through adoption and the challenges we face. Through these challenges, we want to support one another through Christ.

Current adoption support groups at The Chapel
“Journeys from the Heart”
This group is for those who are waiting for a domestic adoption or have adopted domestically. Past discussions have been on articles from the “Adoptive Families” magazine and a book discussion on Keys to Parenting an Adopted Child, by Kathy Lancaster. Our study for 2011 will be a book called After the Dream Comes True, by Michelle Gardner. Our group meets the third Thursday of the month at the Grayslake campus from 7 to 9 p.m.
“Lifelong Journey”
This group is for those who have adopted a child from another country, have adopted through the foster care system, or have adopted an older or special needs child. Past book discussions include Parenting the Hurt Child,” by Gregory Keck and Regina Kupecky. Starting in Jan. 2011, we will we discussing articles on a variety of topics related to our children and families. This group meets the first Wednesday of the month at the Libertyville campus from 7 to 9 p.m.
“International Blessings”
This group is for those who are waiting for an international adoption or have adopted internationally. Starting in January 2011, we will be studying The Connected Child, by Karyn Purvis, David Cross, and Wendy Sunshine. This group will be meeting the third Tuesday of each month at the Libertyville campus from 7 to 9 p.m.
“Strong Hands, Big Hearts”
This group is for Dads who have a common gift: families that are not biologically related (i.e, adoption, foster care, safe families). The goal is to grow beyond this initial common gift and learn about all of the other resources, passions and talents each of us have been given. The final step is for us to help each other take chances, go out on limbs, and utilize our passions and our talents to positively impact our families, our friends and the world around us. We will meet the second and fourth Saturday at 7 a.m. at the Grayslake campus.
