Safe Families
Safe Families provides a home for children whose families are in crisis, including parents facing eviction or homelessness, mothers undergoing surgery or drug rehabilitation, and teenage mothers without family support. The program relies on volunteer families who open their homes to children for a time period ranging from two days to one year. Biological parents maintain full custody of their child and are encouraged to participate in decisions regarding their child’s care while they address whatever issues led to the crisis.
The goal of Safe Families is to reunite families in a safe, stable home environment and to address the needs of the large number of children that are not served by the child welfare system. Volunteer families are educated and supported by LYDIA, a Christian social service agency, and have the opportunity to not only provide a safe home for children, but to minister to their parents as well.
